| Through many years of music education experience with people of all ages, Bobbie Brown, a founder and CEO of Music Talk Inc., has always known how therapeutic music can be. However, it wasn’t until 2002 that this program began. With the collaboration of Jean Piette, a retired Special Education Coordinator (P.C.O.E.), and Bobbie, a music program was developed to engage children with social and/or language disabilities. The idea was, and is, to improve and provide an alternative and additional means of communication to children, educators, and parents through the use of music. Music reaches everyone! Also, those diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease, as Bobbie learned when her Dad was diagnosed with the degenerative disease. When she’d visit him at the retirement home, she’d bring along her autoharp and sing old wartime tunes. When it seemed he wasn’t listening, he would occasionally point out a missed note or word! To know that he was really listening was extremely rewarding and comforting. Not only to him but to the other residents and caregivers there, as well. They had even begun to look forward to her visits. It’s truly amazing how music reaches everybody on so many levels. |
